BIOGRAPHY

KNOBIL is a French, post-bop and glitter jazz song project created by Lausanne-based double bassist, singer and composer Louise Knobil. Influenced by Esperanza Spalding, Charles Mingus and Boris Vian, she uses her double bass and her voice to share with you her musical diary, between polyamory, lack of sleep and pesto recipe. The artist performs her compositions solo or accompanied by her knodisciples: Chloé Marsigny (bass clarinet) and Vincent Andreae (drums).

After the release of its first EP “Or not KNOBIL”, in March 2023 (Hout Records), KNOBIL performs notably at Cully Jazz 2023+24, Montreux Jazz 2024, Paléo 2023, JazzOnze+ 2023, Sunset Sunside 2023+24, Jazz à Vienne 2024 and at Périscope 2024. The release of a second disc entitled “KNOBISOUS” and an international tour are planned for fall 2024. Beyond numerous concert dates in Switzerland and Europe, KNOBIL receives numerous distinctions.

  • Winner of the New Jazz Showcase of M4Music 2023
  • Nomination in the 15 best projects of the European Women in Jazz 2023 springboard
  • Winner for the Suisse Diagonales Jazz 2024
  • Winner of the Langnau Jazz Nights 2023 springboard

With the captivating EP “Or Not Knobil”, six tracks sung in English and French, Louise Knobil does more than touch jazz neophytes: she propels them into her magnificent parallel universe, as if suspended somewhere between classic jazz and its contemporary notes, sprinkled with funk and rock. The solar and crystalline voice of the Lausannoise harmonizes brilliantly with the rich rhythm sections and wind instruments, generously distilling her passion and her questions, on fresh and colorful texts addressing both queer love and overwork. » Juliette De Banes Gardonne – Le Temps
